FOCUS OF THE COLLECTION

Industrialisation has led to generation of several newly surfaced harmful compounds that emerge as contaminants in the environment. Accumulation of these non-natural entities in the significant amounts lead to the environmental pollution. Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products, Per- and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances, Agricultural Pesticides,
Microbial viruses and bacteria are various emerging contaminants that degrade in subsurface soil and groundwater. The augmenting amounts of these compounds (eg. chemicals, plastics, toxic gases, nanoparticles etc.) in the environment will likely to have substantial impact on the biosphere. Therefore, integrative assessment of the parameters related to the repercussion of emerging environmental contaminants is necessary for their timely management, since these novel contaminants of emerging concern have not been regulated under current environmental laws. Various possible negative impacts of emerging contaminants on human health includes developmental, neurological, immunogical, reproductive problems even cancer. A holistic scientific approach considering upcoming issues and impacts of emerging contaminants is the need of hour
to develop their mitigation strategies.

Focus: Emerging contaminants with evidences of increasing environmental occurrence that may cause adverse impact on the environment or human health viz. Micropollutants.
Aim: Research to draw scientific attention on the occurrence of already present uncommon or newly emerging contaminants being manufactured leading to water pollution, soil pollution.

Scope: Development of estimation/assay protocols with improved ability for the detection of emerging contaminants as well as technological development for their control and mitigation viz. Bioremediation.
